In Case Anyone’s Getting Worried Again
Even if the following things happen:
- The Red Sox play .500 ball in all 16 remaining non-Yankee games
- The Yankees play to their Pythagorean (.591, which they’ve been doing for the last 30 games) in all 17 of their remaining non-Sox games
- AND they sweep us in the upcoming series
We’ll still win the division by a game.
And the chances of all three of those things happening are, I’d say, pretty damned remote.
So cut it out. We’re good.

I’m looking forward to Manny too. I have hopes that while he’s not been playing he’s taken a look at the fact he only has 20 hrs, is insulted by this, and hits one to two a day for the rest of the season. And perhaps we keep Ellsbury in for Drew.

Well, I don’t want to alarm anyone, but:
J.D. Drew, last 10 games: .285/.444/.500 with a homer and 3 doubles.
I know it’s been said before, but he’s getting excellent AB’s and he’s hitting the ball with authority - he’s had a couple of loud outs in there as well. Obviously he’s had a rough season, but if there was ever a time for a turnaround it’s now - and I think he very well might be doing it. It would not surprise me to see him be an offensive force in the postseason.
Ellsbury has been fantastic too, but he’s not platoonable with Drew and I really can’t see the Sox going into October with a September call-up starting in right, no matter how high a ceiling he might have.
